He’s also her boss and long-time friend, but when danger explodes around them, they’re drawn together by a passion neither can deny.
Sabrina “Bean” Ventura is one of the most skilled hackers in the world. She’s the unseen force behind Hudson Security, unraveling secrets from the safety of the shadows. However, when one of their own is threatened, everything changes.
Gavin Frazier is a man with one primary focus: protecting those under his care. As the head of Hudson Security, he’s ruthless in his pursuit of safety for his clients and employees. There’s no time for distractions. But when Bean is injured, his protective instincts flame to life in ways he never expected. She’s more than his employee and trusted friend, she’s everything he can’t seem to resist.
As the danger around them escalates, Gavin’s desire to protect Bean grows—as does the undeniable chemistry between them. While they race against time to stop an unknown enemy, they must trust each other like never before or risk losing everything—including their chance at love.

About the author

Christina Sol is an award-winning author who writes what she loves to read — romance books filled with heart, heat, and suspense.
An avid reader from the get-go, Christina was obsessed with The Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley Twins, Sweet Valley High, Christopher Pike, and all things V. C. Andrews. Her love for romance started with the Sunfire books, a YA historical romance series. Caroline by Willo Davis Roberts was her favorite of the series, and a copy of the 1984 novel is one of her most treasured possessions. Then she discovered Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. And never looked back. She’s still a voracious reader and enjoys all genres of romance, but leans toward romantic suspense and dark romance.
She lives in the inland Pacific Northwest with her husband and two kids. When she’s not writing, reading, or knitting, she’s watching football or fueling her planner, sticker, and washi-tape obsession.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2025These two came very close to beating out Matt and Scarlet. I loved everything about them. They both would do just about anything for the other. They both had their own personas that everybody knew and saw on a daily basis. Gavin was the gruff, never faltering owner of Hudson Security. The exmilitary, very put together, supremely calculated leader. Bean was the ghost behind the scenes. Work was her entire life. Computers at work, computers at home, computers to unwind from computers. She was the epitome of burning the candle at both ends.
Watching them both learn about the others' past times. Gavin learning Bean's computer game that she does to unwind. And Bean bending and going on hikes in the wide open nature. Gavin buying her shoes and taking care of her. I loved everything about them. They both became each others' safe places. Somebody finally in their corners where they could let their guards down and be taken care of.
Bean finally learns what a work life balance is. Gavin finally shows that he has a softer side. They both just seemed to finally click in their place in life with this relationship.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2025I enjoyed all of the Hudson Island books, so this one was a quick download and read for me when it came out today. I loved Gavin and Bean- perfect friends to lovers with some intrigue thrown in. Can’t wait to see what happens with Xander in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2025Out of the Shadows is the first book in Sol’s new series, Hudson Security and it definitely a book to read. This is a boss/employee, friends to lovers with a fast-paced, intense storyline and a charming cast of characters. There’s chemistry, believable scenarios, lots of laughs, found family, and steamy romance. Gavin’s gruff and alpha tendencies make him a perfect protector hero and yet with Bean he’s comforting, sweet, and her safe place. Bean keeps to the background, all about work, no time for outside friends and niceties. She’s smart as a whip and a control freak. I loved watching her come out of her introverted shell, try new things, learn to let go, and find her inner strength with Gavin’s coaxing and confidence in her. I enjoyed watching Bean help Gavin find a balance between work and play. They compliment each other perfectly as a couple. This is a fantastic start to the series and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2025I enjoyed this book, the first I’ve read by author Christina Sol. The story started out with a lot of intensity and grabbed me immediately. The action and suspense waned pretty quickly after that first burst though and then things stayed pretty quiet for a while. The author did a good job of setting up the new series and introducing all the characters populating it. I didn’t feel like I was being overwhelmed with names. And I liked the relationship between the two main characters, Gavin and Bean. (Though I was not a fan of her nickname.) I was a little annoyed with the author for describing Bean as a beautiful, curvy woman though. Only because Bean is also described as struggling with being a workaholic who doesn’t get out and hasn’t exercised in ages, and consumes only coffee, energy drinks and prepackaged junk food. Those two just don’t go together. And I really would have liked to get a little more back story on Gavin. All we’re told is that he was a former soldier and now runs a successful business. I was curious how he transitioned from the military to an elite security agency, and at a relatively young age. There was a bit of suspense and action peppered through the latter half of the book, but there wasn’t nearly as much as I’d hoped for. All in all though the writing was solid, the relationship (though it moved very quickly) was refreshing for its honesty and the characters were interesting. I’d be willing to give the next book in the series a read. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2025I’ve read all of Christina Sol’s books and Gavin and Bean’s love story is now my favorite! It was so satisfying to see their feelings change and grow in front of their Hudson Security “family”. Especially loved seeing Gavin’s alpha turned cinnamon role persona - he is one hot/sweet hero and Bean is a strong, intelligent & likable heroine so you can’t help but root for this couple’s HEA. This book gives all the feels but also an interesting and action-packed whodunnit mystery for readers to solve.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2025I really enjoyed Out of the Shadows by Christina Sol! The third-person perspective took me a bit by surprise, especially since I’ve been reading so many first-person narratives lately, but it ended up being a refreshing change. The story’s suspense kept me hooked from start to finish—there’s just enough mystery woven into the romance to keep things interesting and unpredictable. I love a good balance of tension and attraction, and this book definitely delivered.
In Out of the Shadows, Sabrina “Bean” Ventura is one of the world’s most skilled hackers, working from the shadows to protect her team at Hudson Security. Gavin Frazier, the head of Hudson Security, is a man with one priority: protecting those under his care. Bean and Gavin have worked together for years, but find themselves drawn to each other after an issue at work. I've not read Christina's work before, but I understand that Gavin (and possibly Bean?) have been introduced in the Hudson Island series previously.
I’m definitely looking forward to continuing the series and following others from Hudson Security!
